Halfpence

Brown Ales once enjoyed immense popularity all over the UK. During WWI barley prices soared and the British government advocated for lower alcohol beers to save on raw materials and to battle widespread drunkenness. Between 1914 and 1919 beer strengths dropped an average 25% across the country. Halfpence was brewed to a Pre-War strength of 15 Plato, Mashed using traditional English Maris Otter, crystal, brown, and a pinch of chocolate malt. Lightly bittered with whole leaf UK Target hops, along with small additions later in the boil of Fuggle and East Kent Golding. Fermented in our custom Burton Union with our go-to London Ale yeast, naturally carbonated and conditioned in casks and cans. Show Less
