Tiny Batch Series #3: Black Philip's Delicious Life

Every now and then when you work with barrel aging of beer, you end up with leftovers. Perhaps the batch you brewed yielded more than there was room for in the designated barrels. Or the opposite could happen: you have a barrel or two too many. And sometimes you find yourself in the happy situation that the surplus beer can be paired with a leftover barrel. And that's exactly how the Tiny Batch Series was created. Born and nursed by our tender and caring Head Brewer, Jacob Storm, as if they were his own little babies. But ‘tiny' must be taken literally - there's only a few hundred bottles of each beer in this series! Sometimes when you brew a new beer, you don't hit the style or the intended gravity spot on the first time. When we first brewed our monster of a double mash Imperial Stout, Hoodoo Brown, the beer was too fully attenuated and super strong - 16,94% alcohol to be precise - after an encounter with the notorious high gravity yeast HA18. But the body was too thin for such a beef of a beer. So we had to brew an "adjustment brew" to blend into the original for a richer, fuller body, and that ended up as the final and released version of Hoodoo Brown. Black Philip's Delicious Life consists of 85% of the original super strong batch of what was intended to be Hoodoo Brown, blended with 15% of Double Black Mash. So you could call it an alternate version of Hoodoo Brown, even stronger and even more evil after 24 months in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel. If you've never danced Show Less
