Purely an aesthetic decision. They do say you drink with your eyes though, so… Ours does taste great too. With your mouth that is. Columbus, Simcoe, Mosaic and El Dorado, innit. Classic combo. Crazy refreshing and more moreish than most other far less moreish beers. Read Less

Like the inevitable repeating fractals at every scale of the universe, and the inescapably interrelated nature of the heavens and the earth, this beer is incredibly difficult to comprehend. Unfortunately, these tasting notes are unlikely to make either any more clear. Which is interesting as this beer is also fairly opaque. Simply coincidence or just more evidence of patterns repeating? No. It is not. Or is it? Again, no. But if it was, that pattern would be delicious and citrusy with lots of grapefruit and touch of pine. And that’s the kind of pattern you’d be happy to repeat on you. But please go and do it privately or at least excuse yourself afterwards. Have some manners. Read Less

Like a manic falcon screaming into the night, Herald announces - or indeed Heralds - its own arrival like a hopped-up nocturnal narcissist demanding to be loved immediately before turning on you and making you feel bad like the dark triad maniac your mam told you it would be. Which is particularly strange because falcons aren’t typically nocturnal. Which says a lot about falcons but not much about this beer. Like all falcons this beer has a light body and a wonderful flavour & aroma of citrus and grapefruit – allowing you to partake of several at a sitting (pints not falcons). To be explicitly clear, we are NOT suggesting that you consume falcons. We are, however, saying that you SHOULD consume this beer because it is delicious – just like falcons. Read Less

Named for the goddess of the Black Forest, Abnoba is a dessert porter with more going on than other beers with far less going on. Interestingly, she’s sometimes depicted naked riding bareback. Chocolate, bourbon vanilla, sour cherry and lashings of lactose all combine to cut a fine figure of the desert made famous by its namesake. Richer than Richie Rich and twice as surly, this drop gets the job done like a prepubescent millionaire with money to burn. Read Less

Slicker than Richard Gere’s pet octopus Pete and a duck ton less fishy, this beverage is a thoroughly consumable example of the carbonated alcoholic liquid we like to call New England style juicy yellow hoppy beer yum yum tastey tastey pour it in my mouth hole. Or NESJYHBYYTTPIIMMH. And whilst Richard Tiffany Gere has famously gone on record vocally stating that it is simply the standard brewing ingredients used in a fractionally different way – it is. I’m sure you’ve also heard disgraced actor Richard Gere use descriptions of big bold hop flavours like stone fruit, citrus, and tropical fruit, but who appointed Richard the Tsar of craft beer? Like the wayfarer depicted on the label this beer has some serious body, much less moustache, and absolutely no octopus. Paler than the surface of the moon but much, much closer, you can actually hold this beer in your hand – unlike the moon. It does not, however, control the tides. In fact, that’s where the analogy to the moon ends. What it will do is keep you coming back for more like a boomerang made out of bad pennies. That doesn’t even make sense. Should’ve stuck with the moon metaphor. It is very pale though; seriously. Better mention the hops too - El Dorado, Styrian Wolf and Strata – done. Read Less

An easy drinking, hazy pale with plenty of tropical fruit punch and citrus zing thanks to big hits of Motueka and Idaho 7 in the whirlpool and dry-hop. Darker than the dark side of the moon this beer regularly has inappropriate thoughts about Judy Finnegan but much like all of our darkest of thoughts it is also bloody delicious. What a conundrum. There is of course no ‘dark side’ of the moon but rather the moon always has the same side facing the earth in a synchronous rotation with the back side of the moon regularly bathed in sunlight. All of which is very boring unlike this beer which tastes like the combination of stout and amaretto - the Doctor Pepper Bomb! Read Less

Empire ships laden with heavily hopped ales disappear in a swirling dream-like half-remembered fallacy, returning through a lupulin miasma riding on the back of giant Carhartt wearing bearded American men smacking of citrus and stone fruit hollering none sense like ‘mouthfeel’ and incomprehensible rubbish like ‘dank’. These giant aquatic hipsters crash on the White Cliffs of Dover spilling their coarse American flavours on her fair beaches. Like a seal in some horrendous environmental disaster, trad beer perishes in a sulphury parp easily overwhelmed by something with flavour! From the twig laden ashes, a phoenix rises, soaring out to sea bearing Olicana, Harlequin and Jester upon its firey wings. Read Less

And one thing we can tell you for sure is that 100% of people don’t know whether they like Guayusa West Coast Pale because no one’s ever tried it. YET. Haskap, blackberry and blueberry are all fruits. Nick Berry is not – he was the star of former ITV hit prime time show Heartbeat. The three fruit-based berries have been added to Enemy of my Enemy. There is, however, zero Nick Berry in this beer. Interestingly, both this beer and Heartbeat originate in Leeds though. Whilst Nick Berry is thought of as an affable, handsome leading man, Enemy is a fruity sour assassin that’ll creep out of the shadows, force you to down a can of her delicious tart fluid before tying you up and scrawling “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” on the wall in red lipstick - and as such could not be less like Nick Berry. I’ve got a two-year-old daughter so that’s where the tasting note references are going to be mainly coming from now. She also loves fruit so its conceptually consistent. Honestly. Sour, sweet, and fruity - the best way to get it across is that it’s like drinking liquidised mango and passion fruit sour jelly babies.
