It was great to get some of our friends together to celebrate Northern Monk opening in MCR. We wanted the collaboration to be more than just a beer though, more a reflection of the city so we asked everyone to suggest an ingredient or approach that would make the beer quintessentially Manchester. For this, we teamed up with Cloudwater, Track Brewing, Manchester Marble Brewery, Blackjack and Runaway Brewery.

We discussed the city’s pride in its history as a key international trading post and decided to reflect this with a global selection of hop varieties covering Australia (Enigma), New Zealand (Nelson Sauvin), America (Mosaic and Columbus) and Europe (Styrian Cardinal).

The base beer is a classic golden pale ale in true Mancunian style, with gentle up front bitterness and layers of gooseberry, passion fruit, sherbet, and citrus fruit courtesy of our international hop profile. Read Less

Brewed in collaboration with our good friends at Runaway Brewery. Having recently relocated and opened in Stockport, we missed our old neighbours so much that we immediately hatched plans to do a collaboration with them. The plan was simple, lets make a beer that is clean, simple and eminently smashable.

Small additions of crystal malts and rye malt give the malt base a nice colour and dryness which is then balanced against Amarillo hops added at the whirlpool.

VISUAL - Light amber, with a loose foam head
AROMA - Subtle toffee and chewy malt notes balanced against the pithy zesty notes of Amarillo hops
FLAVOUR - A dry rye spiciness lingers in the background, with orange pith and toffee notes working harmoniously together
MOUTHFEEL - Bitter leaning, but very drinkable. Read Less
