This IPA uses hops that we not only grew at our Farm & Yard in Dixon, but also dried, baled and stored ...until the time was right.

The world doesn’t need another IPA. We decided only to make one if we could add to the conversation.

A result of our RFR+D* program, this beer had many iterations. When visitors to the Taproom liked it and we couldn’t stop drinking it ourselves, we realized that perhaps we had something worth sharing.

Two months ago, we sent a test IPA to our favorite stores and restaurants and listened to your suggestions on how to make it better. We tweaked some things, and made a 2.0, listened again...tweaked again.

Here it is, we call it Frank J. (the Capt’s eldest son)

This limited release ale was developed out of our RFR+D program and showcases the first hops grown and dried on the Ruhstaller Farm & Yard in Dixon, California (& the first hops grown, dried & brewed on a commercial scale in the Sacramento Valley in several generations) . Last year’s Nugget hop crop surprised us both for its unique character and bountiful yield.

A single hop ale, the Nugget hop expresses smooth licorice notes, subtle yet distinct, for possibly the perfect Sacramento Springtime Ale. Enjoy!

Bottle artwork is a collaboration with artist Danny Scheible of Sacramento-based Tapigami.

This beer originated in our RFR+D program and was an unexpected favorite in taproom trials. Folks really enjoyed early test versions and asked us to make more...and we listened.
