From Oakland to Melbourne, the love of true West Coast IPAs runs deep. So deep that we share the same latitude, just in different hemispheres.

Latitude 37.8 West Coast IPA is a celebration of old brewing mates Scotty from Wolf and Andy from Original Pattern crossing the ocean to share their mutual love of dank, tropical West Coast IPAs.

This is a true intercontinental Brewing collaboration where the two brewers brew the same beer at each brewery. Andy traveled to Mordialloc, Melbourne, in late December to brew the Australian batch of Latitude 37.8, whilst our man Scotty returned with Andy to Oakland, in the U.S., to brew the American version in early January.

Made with one of our favourite Australian hops, Eclipse, and a yet-to-be-named experimental U.S. hop (currently labeled HBC 586), which is already well known for its Mango, guava, lychee, citrus, and herbal notes.

Plenty of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine, and a hint of that dankness that the west coast of the US is so well known for.

We had the pleasure of hosting their head brewer, Andy, last month at the brewery. We had a great time sharing stories, shaking him down for info, and making wort! We wanted this to be an absolute juice bomb so we brewed this hazy IPA with New Zealand Waimea, New Zealand Rakau, and Citra hops to get tons of tropical fruit notes. A collaboration between Drake's and Original Pattern. A super tropical IPA brewed with English malt, oats, and unkilned wheat. This creates a foundation of pillowly soft body and lovely sweetness. Then utilizing Galaxy hops for tasting notes of pineapple and passionfruit lends way to the massive dry-hop. Four lbs. per barrel of equal parts Idaho #7, Mosaic, and Ekuanot hops then punch you in the face with tropical fruit, this is rounded out with a bit of pine and very mild bitterness.
