Lava is quite unique in the Icelandic beer history and the first of its breed. Inspiration comes from the active volcano Hekla which is visible from the brewery's door and occasionally eruptions are visible from the Ölvisholt farm. A tribute to a lost soul. In the winter of 1784, during the Skaftár Fires volcanic eruption in south Iceland, a young boy was forced to flee his home. He came upon a farm and begged the farmer for shelter from the cold. The farmer turned the boy away, and later that night the boy drowned in a nearby pond. The boy‘s ghost remained on the farm, haunting the farmer and his family for generations. The name of the boy is not known, but his ghost was called Kambholts-Móri

Skjálfti means earthquake in Icelandic. The Ölvisholt farm is located directly on top of where the American and European continents meet. On the 21st of June in the year 2000 a great earthquake happened at the Ölvisholt Farm when the two continents rubbed against each other. Resulting in a lot of damage at the farm. The beer is named after this quake. Two days prior to the grand opening of the brewhouse in 2008 another earthquake struck the farm but with less damage. The first earthqake to strike Sweden in 60 years happened the same week as Skjálfti hit the shelves in Stockholm in 2008. Read Less

Ölvisholt's Christmas seasonal beer, Jólabjór, is a smoked bock beer introduced in 2009. A top-fermented ale spiced with cinnamon, cloves, ginger and orange peel. The dark color comes from lightly toasted Munich malt to give the beer the body needs a Chrismas beer requires. Stóri Skjálfti is a seasonal beer, brewed in the occasion of "Thorri" season, were Icelanders will sit down and celebrate Thorrablot, a sacrificial midwinter festival offered to the gods in pagan Iceland of the past. We will come together to eat, drink and be merry. Customary, the menu consists of unusual culinary delicacies, known as traditional Icelandic food. These will include rotten shark’s meat (hákarl), boiled sheep’s head, (svið) and congealed sheep’s blood wrapped in a ram’s stomach (blóðmör)! Sounds delicious, right?!
