Ozaukee County in 1839 looked much different today when the first European settlers, William Opitz and Adolph Zimmerman, immigrated to Mequon from Saxony, Germany. Once established here, they dug lager caves into the the side of a bluff near the Milwaukee River and built their namesake brewery which has stood since 1857 and now houses Foxtown Brewing.

Knowing Optiz-Zimmerman brewery floor malted and oven kilned their barley means they likely brewed a Czech-style amber lager for the hard working and thirsty citizens of their time. Today, mindful of this Old World malting method, we brew our Old Ozaukee, a clean Czech-style lager with a smooth, complex matliness and a nod to our roots. Read Less
