“The Hustle is Weird” is our effort in making an excuse to gather as many local breweries in one spot as we could (and yes, we bribed them with @holedoughnuts and free pizza). Thanks to the camaraderie we’ve seen in this small lil’ Beer Town USA, we’ve been able to forge many a wild and weird memory here, and we consider ourselves very lucky to be able to continue doing so for a long time to come. So in the effort of staying weird, we wanted to help y’all celebrate AVL Beer Week by highlighting some of our buds in town and a killer local charity while we’re at it.

We know you'll be hustlin' all week for AVL Beer Week, so come unwind and dive headfirst into a West Coast IPA crafted in collaboration with not one, not two, but a whopping 19 other badass local breweries. Talk about a team effort!

Mashed with @Riverbend 2-Row and Munich, and @proximitymalt Wheat and Dextrin Malt. Hit HARD on the hot side with Columbus and Michigan Centennial, fermented low and slow and spunded for dat natural carb. Dry hopped only once, but rather aggressively with Idaho 7, Loral, Cascade, and a fat dab of Columbus Cryo.

Notes of tiny lil’ miscellaneous Berry hard candies, a bag of skittles, sticky coniferous trees mixed up with a nice Orange Marmalade, the dankness in a parking lot before a String Cheese Incident concert, and that first righteous pint of Race 5 you had from way back when. Read Less

OH MY GOD! AM I CURSED?! Oh, okay. This is a beer. Phew

Make sure you remember to bring that good juju on your trip to pick up our newest West Coast IPA “The Hustle is Hexed”! To make sure those curses were extra strong, we teamed up with our near and dear pals @cellarestbeer to really bring the vibe to another level.

Mashed with Riverbend 2-Row, @proximitymalt Wheat, a touch of their Crystal malt (a bit more complex this time!), and just a kiss of their Dextrin malt. Hit HARD on the hot side with Columbus and Cascade, fermented low and slow with our Pub Ale yeast and spunded for dat natural carb. Dry hopped only once, but rather aggressively with a whole bunch of Australian Eclipse (a new-to-us hop!) and a bunch of Centennial Cryo.

Notes of fruity gummies wrapped in miscellaneous citrus peels and coated in coniferous tree sap, a big bowl of fruit salad, some sorta devil’s lettuce reference, and that first righteous pint of Oak Aged Ruination you ever had!

It is clear. It is malty. It is Orange. It is bitter. It is dry. It is dank. Hell yeah. Shred that gnar gnar. As always with the “Hustle” series, the amazing @jade.o.lantern killed the artwork. Read Less

We’ve had a lot of moments of ego battling, idea wrangling, rationality harnessing and perpetual confusion in these 9 spins around the sun. And if there’s anything we’ve learned its that life is all about our subjective perspectives. Because the canvas cannot always be shared. Sometimes humans just want their own palette. Vince Tursi and Mark Goodwin, both Burial Alumni, have begun to write their own stories at DSSOLVR and Cellarest, respectively, and have returned to give us one amalgamated expression of unanimous agreement. An oak lagered pilsner brewed with Riverbend Malting floor malted Czech Pilsner malt and whirpooled with 3 pounds per barrel of Hallertau Blanc, Hallertauer Hersbrucker, and Spalter Select. Mashed with a base of 100% Riverbendmalt, comprised of a blend of Czech Pilsner and Chesapeake Pilsner and a dash of Chit Malt to pull out Malt presence and present a minimized Malt backbone to let the hops shine. Hopped throughout the boil with Egger’s Motueka and Whirlpooled with Egger’s Riwaka before being fermented with our House Lager Yeast and spunded for natty carbonation. It was then hit with a Dry Hop of Egger’s Rakau and NZ Cascade Liquid Lupulin before being laid down to rest in our Horizontal Lager Tanks.

We experience a soft and gentle body like a Horse’s mane, lots of Citrus zest and Pear juice, a Plum-wine Soju vibe, a bit of “New Zealand fruity” hop bouquet throughout, and a bit of that dank-and-grassy character. Read Less

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! “The Hustle is Weird” is our annual tradition in making an effort to gather as many local breweries in one spot as we could (and yes, we bribed them with free pizza and coffee) for a non-event social hangout with just the industry folks. And with a new recipe this year!

Thanks to the camaraderie we’ve seen in this small lil’ Beer Town USA, we’ve been able to forge many wild and weird memories here, and we consider ourselves very lucky to be able to continue doing so for a long time to come. What is this, ANOTHER CLASSIC American Pale Ale?! Uh...no. It’s a NEW ZEALAND Pale Ale. So essentially, this is Bonus Skull, but with 100% New Zealand hops and brewed in collaboration with our budz @cellarestbeerproject. Because we love NZ Hops and we love @blissfulbrewer.

“That New Chill” is the next release in a series of more approachable Pale Ales that remind us of the yesteryears of our favorite hoppy beverages, but with a fun and fruity twist. We’ll continue to rotate through a very small number of iterations while we lock in on a few key aspects of what we want this to represent within our portfolio. So come on, crack that can and take this journey with us!

Mashed with a simplistic grist of 100% @riverbend 2-Row with a dash of their Munich and Chit for some depth (but not too much!). Hopped with NZ Wakatu on the hot side, as well as a light dry-hopping with NZ Wakatu and NZ Motueka. Fermented low and slow with our Pub Ale yeast for maximum clarity, and spunded for natural carb.

We experience a dew-drenched Spring morning, Kafir Lime leaves, some miscellaneous fruit snacks, and a pleasantly dry Honey character on the finish. The one rips, y’all.

JUST enough malt character to keep it together, a pleasantly light body and fruity nose, and JUST enough hop character to keep you coming back for more. Well balanced, through and through. Plus, it’s clear. So that’s kinda cool, right? Read Less
