Tyler Brown is a legend in the beer industry, the godfather of modern IPA in the Northwest, and one of the best storytellers you'll ever meet. We've been lucky enough to soak up tons of knowledge from Tyler and his crew at Barley Brown's, and there's no doubt that Breakside IPA and Wanderlust exist the way they do today thanks to the influence of Tyler, Eli, Shawn, and Marks. It was a no-brainer to host them as part of our 10th anniversary collaborations and also a no-brainer to make a West Coast IPA with them. When we sat down to make this beer, we asked, 'how would we design a new West Coast IPA in 2020' that captures the direction that WC IPA is heading? The resulting beer is filled with three of the fruitiest hops around, Strata, Mosaic, and Azacca, along with a touch of Simcoe to anchor the beer in classic dank and catty West Coast flavor. The bitterness is modest, the malt bill is extremely lean, and the ABV is moderate. It's a contemporary West Coast IPA for the new decade.⁠

We always wanted to make a year-round German-style Pilsner. Both because it tastes great and it’s a favorite of ours. We import bagged German Pilsner malt and manually add 3,300 pounds to each batch because we believe that’s what it takes to make a great German pilsner. We source all Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, which we prize for their mix of floral and “Noble” notes. Then we wait. This beer is unfiltered, so we rely on natural lagering techniques (i.e. long times and cold temperatures) to get this beer as bright as sunshine. Read Less

We keep exploring the furthest corners of the world of hazy IPAs with this new beer. Coming Out Party, which originally began as a collaboration with our friends at Comrade Brewing in Denver, is a high octane hazy that hits you hard with tropical, dank, and citrus-heavy hops.

Taiheke– a New Zealand-grown version of Cascade– is featured prominently in this beer, and we love its intense lemon-lime character. Alongside that, you’ll get big notes of passionfruit and mango that we get from judicious additions of Mosaic and Vics Secret. The hops are couched in a pillowy malt base that makes the finish super soft. This is about as close as we get to a ‘full New England’ experience in our hazy beers at Breakside!

Brewed in small batches and released in limited quantity just for three months of the year, this beer will be extremely fresh until it quickly disappears. Read Less

Once a year, we release this hoppy behemoth that used over 9 pounds of hops per barrel of beer, got two separate dry hop additions, and clocks in at over 11% alcohol. You need to have a deeply masochistic streak to desire this much hoppiness in your beer. It is a tongue-scraping, aggressive beer with more punch than anything else we make. Safe Word will push you to the limit of how much hop and beer you can handle, but we think you’ll like it enough to keep coming back. The tropical, grapefruit and dank notes of some of our favorite hops make this a pleasure that is hard to refuse. Just know when to say stop. Malts: Two Row, c20L, C40L, CaraPils. Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Cetennial, Citra and Simcoe. 11.1% ABV 100+ IBU. Read Less

Join us for the Bottle Release Party on June 12th from 5pm – 8pm at Whole Foods Market in the Pearl (1210 NW Couch St,, Portland, OR 97209). We’ll have two versions of the Back to the Future IPA on tap, alongside Fremont’s Summer Ale and our Old World IPA.

When we set out to make the Back to the Future IPA with Fremont, we knew that we wanted to make a big IPA and showcase some fun hop varietals that don’t get much attention…yet. We specifically chose new varietals that we think have a lot of promise, and it’s named after the futuristic hops used in each version: Jarrylo and Equinox in Fremont’s, and Azacca and Ella in ours. These beers very might well introduce you to new hop varietals that will be front and center in many IPAs to come. Read Less
