Highland Ale by Innis & Gunn

Oak, whisky spice, toffee, plums, and honey. A bit of warming alcohol and spice plays well off the otherwise sweet beer. I'm impressed.

Alpha Crucis by Seminar Brewing

Bottled 4/18. Bottle was a little overcarbed, but no harm to the beer. Lovely aromas and flavors of tropical fruit and a wee bit of lemon.

Kölsch by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Craig Bacon is drinking a Kölsch by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

After reading the BJCP guidelines, this does hit all the notes for a koelsch, but with the addition of very SN hops. Like a lighter SNPA.

Pale Ale by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Excellent balance. Everything is restrained, even-handed, yet clearly present. Drinkable now, and in the age to come.

Kellerweis by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Clove, bubblegum, lighter on the banana than some. Nearly finishes sweet, until the phenols come back to dry things out. Recommended.

The Rainmaker by Green Man Brewery

Golden, strong resinous and tropical hops, a wee bit astringent. Warming alcohol, nice finishing bitterness. Good stuff!

Nooner by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Craig Bacon is drinking a Nooner by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

Floral and spicy hops add crisp bite to a lightly sweet malt that's not quite bready. Hop bitterness to finish.

Bock Party by The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Craig Bacon is drinking a Bock Party by The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

Floral hops, sweet bready malt, light fruitiness. Excellent lighter bock, though I've served this bottle a wee bit warm.

Nice, floral hoppiness to begin, followed by bready malt and a light fruity sweetness to finish. Perfect May beer.

Hop Drop ‘N Roll by NoDa Brewing Company

Craig Bacon is drinking a Hop Drop ‘N Roll by NoDa Brewing Company at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

This batch is low on the aroma and tropical notes, but still some great juicy, grapefruit hop flavor and bitterness. Canned 4/28/15

312 Urban Wheat Ale by Goose Island Beer Co.

BFE. Might as well be a blonde or all-malt lager for all the American Wheat character it shows. Still, the lawn is mown.

Saturn: The Bringer of Old Age (Planets Series) by Bell's Brewery

Craig Bacon is drinking a Saturn: The Bringer of Old Age (Planets Series) by Bell's Brewery at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

Sharp, biting oak to begin and finish, yet folding in soft vanilla and caramel. Some bourbon and alcohol flavors; overcarbed. Good.

Hop Drop ‘N Roll by NoDa Brewing Company

4/28 can. Aroma is a bit subdued, but otherwise great bitterness and grapefruit flavor; juicy, with just the right malt sweetness.

Bigfoot (2011) by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Craig Bacon is drinking a Bigfoot (2011) by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

Low carb since the growler has been open, but still good flavors. Bitterness comes across less strongly.

Finishing the growler from yesterday's tasting. Bitterness is still more than I would like, but sufficient caramel malt has emerged.

Hop Hunter by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Craig Bacon is drinking a Hop Hunter by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at Saint Julian's Animal Sanctuary

Huge grapefruit aroma, with sticky, juicy hop flavors over a light golden body. At 4.5 months old, this is a fresh IPA. Deserves an award.

Bock Party by The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

After an initial slap of crisp hops, it's all sweet, bready malt and some light fruitiness. Pairs well with Prog, chores, and all else.
